Web liaison officer of the month - January

The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) was ranked 9th in Nigeria in the most recent edition of the Webometrics ranking of World Universities released on 2nd February 2012 as number 9, moving up from 14th position in the July 2011 edition of the rankings.

Upward movement on the ranking depends on quite a number of factors.  Considering the structure of the FUTA website, Web Liaison Officers play a very important role in improving FUTA’s position on the Webometrics ranking of World Universities. The content of the FUTA website is generated through a distributed web authoring system such that every department and unit in the University has a web liaison officer responsible for creating and maintaining pages for their respective departments/units. Adequate and up-to-date representation staff and departmental records is also an important task attributed to Web Liaison Officers and is quite important to the eventual visibility of the University to the outside world.

Mr. Ajayi Joseph Oluwaseun is the Web Liaison Officer representing the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic). He was nominated for this task during the tenure of Prof. Z.D. Adeyewa as the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic). He has carried out his tasks with great zeal and has gone the extra mile to further acquaint himself with the essential concepts in website design, graphics creation and manipulation, HTML/CSS and Javascript. What makes Mr. Ajayi’s work remarkable is not necessarily his technical ability (which is actually limited), but rather the great lengths he has gone to in order to gather and organize useful information on conferences, research grants and scholarships from various sources all over the World Wide Web.

Because of the enthusiasm he has shown in carrying out his duties as the Web Liaison Officer for the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, a number of units in the University have sought his help in generating content for their own sections of the website.

One other thing that makes Mr. Ajayi Oluwaseun remarkable is his willingness to help others in the task of generating and uploading content for the website. Mr. Ajayi Joseph Oluwaseun has shown great character, enthusiasm and zeal in his tasks as a Web Liaison Officer and for that reason, he has been selected by the Computer Resource Centre (CRC) as the best Web Liaison officer for the month of January 2012.
