FUTA Lecturer, Dr. Samuel Olaniran, Wins International Award

A Lecturer in the Department of Forestry and Wood Technology, Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA Dr. Samuel Olaniran has been named as one of the winners of the 2023 Ron Cockcroft Award under the aegis of the International Research Group on Wood Protection (IRGWP) Stockholm, Sweden.

Olaniran , who is also an Alumnus of FUTA, will join 11 other winners from 2023 cohort and 3 from 2022 to attend an all-expenses paid research visit to Australia and attend conference of the Organization in May 2023.

The International Research Group on Wood Protection (IRGWP) is the premier organization globally for the dissemination of scientific information on wood products protection.

The RCA is a merit-based programme to promote international awareness of developments in research in wood protection, by providing assistance towards travel and accommodation costs to selected persons enabling them to participate in IRG conferences.

The award will further strengthen Olaniran's resolve to become one of the leading lights of his area of specialisation.

He says ," My greatest aspiration is to become a renowned scholar in the field of wood science and wood protection and make major contributions in the use of environmentally friendly approaches to make wood more durable, long lasting (with an advantage of carbon storage) and consequently help to save our planet from the scourge of global warming and climate change."

The Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji has Congratulated Dr Olaniran on the feat.
